Capacity & governance

Making the Actual Service Workload Visible

Transition assessment · Capacity planning · Scope definition

The challenge

An application service combined development, bug fixing, production support and recurring operational activities. Planning the receiving team around the application’s technical profile alone risked overlooking the work that would consume most of its capacity.

My contribution

I structured the workload discussion by activity type, distinguishing production support from development, maintenance, reviews and knowledge-transfer effort. I highlighted the importance of understanding task frequency, effort variability and complexity when defining the future service scope.

Value for management

A more realistic basis for discussing staffing, skills and service commitments. The assessment shifted attention towards the actual composition of the workload, helping management evaluate whether the proposed team model matched operational demand.
